Infant Baptism / Child Dedication
Sacred City holds an open-handed view of baptism, which is why we offer the opportunity for children and infants to be baptized - or for parents to publicly dedicate themselves to raising their children according to the gospel.
We recognize that baptism is the sign God has given us as his covenant people. In the Old Testament, we see parents circumcizing their children, because it was the sign of God’s covenant with Abraham. In the New Testament, we see baptism (the “true circumcision”) being celebrated by whole families!
Additionally, in the Old Testament (and with some continuity in the New Testament), we see the practice of people making public vows to the Lord, and so at Sacred City we also hold “Parent-Child Dedications,” in which parents make vows to the Lord in how they are going to raise their children according to God’s Word. This is very different from a child baptism, and is focused more on what the parents will do.
This process is for parents wishing to baptize their children or dedicate themselves. We’ve designed this process to provide you, parents with the resources beneficial to your decision to baptize your children or dedicate yourselves to raising them according to God’s Word, at Sacred City Church. Our desire is that your beliefs regarding baptism and dedication would be well-informed, and these resources will help you to that end.
Note: If your child has made a profession of faith, this isn't the process for you! Head on over to the regular Baptism Process, and work through it with your child.
